Product
The M2, its apps and the S1
The M2 is the hardware. Apps run on it. QBOID Cloud keeps the records until your systems take them.
What is a mobile dimensioner?
A handheld device that measures the length, width and height of an item where it is, instead of carrying the item to a fixed station. The M2 does this with 3D sensors: you point it at the item and press one key. See handheld vs static dimensioners.
What can the M2 measure?
Boxes and parcels, irregular items (polybags, cylinders, bundles, odd-shaped parts) and, with the Pallets app, pallets, crates and long boxes. Irregular items are recorded as the smallest box that contains them, and tagged Irregular. It can't measure transparent or shiny, mirror-like surfaces, and it doesn't measure in direct sunlight. See the M2 page.
What is the Item & Parcel app?
The app on the M2 Mobile Dimensioner for boxes, parcels and irregular items. It records dimensions, weight from a paired scale, barcode, shape and three photos for each item, and sends the record to your systems. See parcel dimensioning.
What is the Pallets app?
An app for the M2 Mobile Dimensioner that measures pallets, crates and other large items from photos. It records the dimensions, photos of each face and your freight details, and sends them to your systems. See pallet dimensioning.
What is the S1 Accessory?
A benchtop station for the M2, with an overhead sensor, a built-in scale and a wireless barcode scanner. Dock the M2 and a barcode scan captures dimensions, weight and photos hands-free, for objects up to 32 × 24 in and 70 lb. See the S1 page.
Handheld or benchtop?
Use the M2 handheld when items are on pallets, shelves or too big to lift. Dock it in the S1 benchtop station when items come to a bench at volume: a barcode scan captures dimensions, weight and photos hands-free. See receiving.
What is WorkFlows?
Apps built around your own process, running on the M2: barcode, dimensions, photos, scale readings and your own fields, sent where you need them. We build the first one with you in a call; after that your team keeps it going. See WorkFlows.
What is QBOID Cloud?
Where your scan records are stored, reviewed and exported. Basic is included with any app licence; Pro adds the REST API, auto refresh and data edits. See QBOID Cloud.
Can I run my own app on the M2?
Yes. The M2 is an Android device. Your Android app can call the dimensioning function through the Android Intent API, a browser-based web app can use it too, and WorkFlows apps run on it as well. See Developers.
Accuracy and limits
What it measures, and how well
The full list of conditions is in the M2 spec table.
How accurate is it?
±0.25 in for cuboid items and ±0.5 in for irregular items, scanned top-down from more than 18 in. Pallets measured with the Pallets app: 1 in. See the M2 spec table.
What sizes can it measure?
From about a bottle cap to a large cooler: smallest side more than 0.5 in, longest side less than 40 in. For pallets and larger freight, use the Pallets app: from about 3 ft up to 7 ft wide or tall.
How are irregular items measured?
As the smallest box that contains them, so the result works for carton selection and DIM weight. The record is tagged Irregular, and the annotated photo shows the box that was measured. See irregular items.
How should I hold the M2?
Top-down, more than 18 in from all surfaces of the item; closer is better than farther. The item and the floor should be matte and opaque. The best-practices video shows how.
Does it work outdoors?
Not in direct sunlight: sunlight interferes with one of the 3D sensors. Under a canopy, at the dock door or indoors it works normally.
What can't it measure?
Transparent items and shiny, mirror-like surfaces; with the Pallets app, also some types of security shrink wrap. It doesn't measure in direct sunlight.
Very small parts or very long freight?
Bluetooth calipers and tape measures, such as Reekon and CubeTape, are added as steps in a WorkFlows app, next to the M2 measurement, barcode and photos. Calipers cover parts under 0.5 in; a tape covers freight longer than the Pallets app range. See accessories.
How long does the battery last?
About 8 hours, from a 5000 mAh hot-swappable battery. Spare batteries ↗ and a 4-bay charger ↗ are on the store. The M2 works from 5 to 35 °C (41 to 95 °F).
How many items per hour can the S1 measure?
We will publish a tested seconds-per-item figure soon. In a demo we can time the S1 on items you choose.
Integration and data
Getting records into your systems
Every scan is one record, saved on the device and sent where you choose.
How does the data get into our WMS, ERP or TMS?
Each scan is a record with dimensions, weight, barcode, shape and three photos. The M2 sends it over Wi-Fi as an HTTPS POST to QBOID Cloud, to your own system, or both. Integration partners already connect the M2 to systems such as NetSuite and SAP.
What are the integration options?
Four: the Perceptor API, where the device posts each record to your endpoint; Android intents, where your own app on the M2 calls dimensioning; the QBOID Cloud REST API (Pro, 60 requests a minute); and WorkFlows, which sends data to your systems without code. See Developers.
Which WMS and ERP systems does it connect to?
The M2 posts each scan as JSON over HTTPS to any endpoint you choose, so your team or integrator can receive it in any system. Integration partners already connect it to platforms such as Oracle NetSuite (through RF-SMART) and SAP (through The Config Team). Pending approval See Integrations.
What is in a record?
Dimensions in mm, weight in g, barcode, shape (Cuboidal or Irregular), your custom attributes, a note, a timestamp, the device serial number and three photos. A text record is about 1 KB; with images it is typically under 1 MB.
Does it need Wi-Fi?
No. All processing happens on the M2 and every scan is saved on the device. Wi-Fi is only needed to send records to QBOID Cloud or your systems.
Do we need QBOID Cloud to use the M2?
No. All processing happens on the M2, which works fully offline and saves every scan on the device. QBOID Cloud is one destination for the records; your own systems are another, and you can use both. See QBOID Cloud.
Where is the data stored?
On AWS, in the region you choose when you sign up: US or EU. Data stays in that region. EU-region operational data is not transferred to the United States. See Trust & security.
Who owns the data?
You do. QBOID doesn't sell operational data and can't access the data on your devices remotely.
Can our IT team manage the devices?
Yes. The M2 works with mobile device management tools such as SOTI, and it makes outbound connections only. WorkFlows apps install by QR code or through your MDM.
Which scales can it pair with?
Bluetooth scales through the QBOID Bluetooth kit, for example the Mettler Toledo BC-60 and the Rice Lake BenchPro BP-1214. Scales that use the SMA protocol connect through an RS-232 to Bluetooth adapter. With WorkFlows, any scale can be read from a photo of its display. See accessories. Setup videos: pairing a scale with the M2 (1:51) and the BC-60's communication settings (0:38).
Buying and pricing
What to buy, and where
Prices are on the QBOID store ↗. Sales can quote for several devices.
How much does it cost?
Prices for the M2, the app licences and accessories are on the QBOID store ↗. For a quote on several devices, an evaluation rental or a reseller near you, contact sales.
What do I need to buy?
An M2 and an annual licence for the app you need. QBOID Cloud Basic is included with any app licence. Prices are on the store. See How to buy.
How are the apps licensed?
The Item & Parcel app, the Pallets app and WorkFlows are each an annual licence per M2, on the store. S1 mode is included in the Item & Parcel app licence, and QBOID Cloud Basic comes with any app licence; Pro is an annual licence.
Is the M2 included with the S1?
No. The S1 is an accessory for the M2, which is sold separately. Any M2 can be docked in any S1. The S1 mode licence is included in the Item & Parcel app licence.
